Somehow, this blog, in the minds of others, has become so interwoven with the text of my life, that people always say “you’re gonna blog about that aren’t you”. Ninety-nine times out of a hundred, they’re wrong, but on this particular occasion they are right.
We say things like, tens of thousands, thousands and hundreds. But we don’t say tens of things. We say dozens. This artificially inflates our commonly conceived rule of powers by 20%. That’s not natural people! We also say scores of things. But I don’t think we tend to think in 20s either.
For one, I think we should say elevens of things…[tongue in cheek].
